From ‘A lonely Girl’ to ‘Tales of Womanhood’

Davina Webb - STEM Ambassador, encouraging young people to explore career options in science, technology, engineering and maths, Co-Author of Tales of Womanhood and writer of ‘A lonely Girl’

Interview with Davina Webb – Managing Director of DEW Consultancy Services Limited, Website Designer, STEM Ambassador, Co-Author of Tales of Womanhood and writer of ‘A lonely Girl’

Who is Davina Webb?

I am many things to many people, a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister.  Today I am a writer working on getting my story out to the World in the hope that I can help others who identify with it. In the future, I hope to have a bestseller in order to touch the lives of as many survivors as I can, in a positive way.

Why this project?

I have wanted to write my own book for as long as I can remember but felt held back by my corporate career. Last year, I set up my own consultancy business and for the first time, I no longer have to worry about the impact pursuing a career as an author will have on my employment status. No sooner had I made a resolution to start writing, I came across a social media post looking for women to collaborate on a book project for women, by women. I instantly knew I had to be a part of it.

I initially wanted to write about finding the strength to move past a history of depression and suicide attempts but as I began to write, I realised that the issues I faced were a lot deeper than the actions I had taken, the root cause was something entirely different. This project has been cathartic for me and has taken me on a journey of self-discovery that I was not expecting to travel.

Without giving too much away, my piece explores the impact of toxic family relationships on a child’s self-esteem, self-worth, confidence and social development. All too often, out of a sense of respect or obligation, or simply just not knowing any different, speaking out against family members is taboo. And so, by default, we keep quiet, and each person who suffers, suffers alone, exacerbating the consequences and damage.  By opening up about my truth, I hope others realise that there is support available whether they are young and still going through something or older and still oppressed. The Global nature of this project, gives me an opportunity to reach more women than I would ever be able to through my coaching, so I am extremely grateful for this opportunity.

What is next?

As well as working on promoting this project, I still feel I have a full book inside me that I intend to put down on paper.

I have recently become a STEM Ambassador, encouraging young people to explore career options in science, technology, engineering and maths. I share my own unorthodox route from chartered accountant to IT consultant and website designer without a technology degree, in the hope that they realise, it is never too late to decide what you want to be when you grow up. I am passionate about giving people choices to follow their dreams without limitations, a theme I plan to continue in my coaching and writing.
