Elon Musk’s “civil war is inevitable” post, in reaction to a video of UK riots, has drawn firm reaction from Downing Street and our readers. The government states that there’s “no justification” for Musk’s statement, urging social media platforms to regulate misinformation.

In light of imminent protests of a far-right nature scheduled for Bristol, a number of local businesses have opted to discontinue service for the day in a bid to protect their clientele and workforce. This sad news reported by the Bristol Post follows the unsettling incidents that took place on Saturday, August 3. The anticipated riots are set to be on Wednesday, August 7.

Several Bristol city centre businesses, including The Volunteer Tavern, issued statements on Monday, informing patrons of their decisions to remain closed for the day of the protest. Deeming that the safety of its staff and customers should take precedence, The Volunteer Tavern signalled its intent to suspend operations for the day. Although regrettable, the decision was nevertheless considered a prudent one, given the tavern’s position as a local hub that champions community bonding and social connections.

The statement read: “This decision was born out of a necessity to maintain the safety and security of both our employees and cherished customers. While it may seem as though we’re ceding ground to these disruptive forces, we believe that this single-day closure serves as a precautionary step to uphold our commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.”

In the same vein, Pete, a representative from The Volunteer Tavern, expressed the establishment’s pride in being part of a community that embraces diversity and inclusivity.

Bristol Bear Bar (BBB) has announced its intention to remain closed due to the protests scheduled in Old Market. The notice stressed that customer and employee safety remains its top priority. Numerous establishments in Old Market have confided that they are taking similar precautions including removing potential projectiles and reinforcing windows.

Bristol is a beautiful town and if Elon Musk would take the time to visit it’s businesses and meet the people building their life around their business, he might apologise for his recent ‘civil war’ post and stop his vicious attacks on the UK democracy.
