Ten years after the referendum, Britain finally has something resembling the Brexit it was promised. Not from the people who promised it, but from the party that voted against it.

The Starmer government is preparing legislation to align UK food and agricultural standards with EU rules, covering 76 regulations across everything from food hygiene to animal welfare. The announcement, expected after the May 7 local elections, would remove border checks on dairy, fish, eggs and red meat, eliminate Export Health Certificates that cost businesses up to £200 per shipment, and cut through the bureaucratic knot that has strangled UK-EU trade since 2021.

If you only read the British press, you would think the country was about to be annexed by Brussels.

## The UK Press Has Lost the Plot

The Telegraph calls it "bringing back 76 EU laws." GB News frames it as a "Brexit betrayal." Nigel Farage calls it "abject surrender" and "a slippery slope to rejoin." Dame Priti Patel says Labour is "undoing the democratic decision of the British people."

None of this is journalism. It is content designed to keep people angry about Europe in perpetuity, regardless of what is actually happening.
