Clueso, a San Francisco company whose AI agents make training, product and marketing videos for businesses, has raised a $10 million Series A led by Dharana Capital. Founders Future and Neotribe Ventures joined as new investors, and Y Combinator and f7 Ventures invested again. The round brings Clueso's total funding to $12 million, and more than 80% of the new money came from investors who had backed its seed round.

More than 1,000 companies pay for Clueso, among them Atlassian, Zendesk, Gainsight, Seismic and Ironclad, and its customer numbers have tripled in the past year. The company says teams using it have reported productivity gains of more than five times and an 80% cut in video production costs. Clueso has 35 staff in San Francisco and Bengaluru, says it is profitable, with positive EBITDA and cash flow, and expects to have close to 50 employees by the end of the year.

## Training Video Software and the Cost of Recording by Hand

Most business videos are still recorded and edited by hand, one at a time, in tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Canva and Camtasia, or captured with screen recorders such as Loom. Others go to agencies on timelines of several weeks. Each time a product screen or an internal process changes, a tutorial or training video showing the old version has to be recorded and edited again.

"Video is one of the most effective formats enterprises use to train teams, educate customers, and sell products. However, traditional video production was never designed for enterprise volume and velocity," said Vamsi Duvvuri, founder and managing partner at Dharana Capital, an India-focused growth investor whose portfolio includes Urban Company and MyGate.

Clueso's founders, Akash Anand, Prajwal Prakash and Neel Balar, met at IIT Madras and have been friends for more than a decade. Their first company, Desklamp, a note-taking app for university students, got them into Y Combinator before they changed course partway through the program. To make marketing videos for Desklamp, they booked a studio, filmed themselves, recorded voiceovers, animated the app's screens in Adobe After Effects and edited every cut by hand. One video could take two weeks, and agencies quoted $6,000 a video, which they could not afford. When ChatGPT and [the voice generator ElevenLabs](https://www.sovereignmagazine.com/article/from-hollywood-to-hr-why-ai-voices-are-becoming-a-corporate-staple) made scripting, voiceover and editing work easier to automate, they built Clueso to bring those steps into one product for business video.

## Clueso's AI Agents, Video Editor and Clueprints

A team can start from a product workflow, a document, a presentation, a screen recording or an idea for a video. Clueso's computer agents open the real software, carry out the workflow and capture the footage themselves. The platform then writes the script, generates the voiceover, adds motion graphics and captions, and edits the video. People can change any part of it in a browser-based editor, or ask Clueso's editing agent for changes in a chat window. When the product or process changes, Clueso can run the workflow again and refresh the video.

Companies set their own rules for voice, visual style, localization, motion graphics and music in what Clueso calls Clueprints, so videos made by different teams, and by its agents, follow the same brand. Integrations bring in information from the systems where a company keeps its product and brand knowledge, and the Clueso MCP lets AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT create and edit videos through Clueso.

Anand names Synthesia and Guidde as Clueso's closest competitors in AI video. Synthesia, which turns scripts into videos presented by AI avatars, was valued at $4 billion in January. Anand says the difference is that Clueso's agents operate the real product to capture what a video needs, while with most other tools a person still records the workflow, does the retakes and updates the video by hand.

## Clueso Customers Atlassian, GitLab, Zendesk and FIFA

> "Clueso has fundamentally simplified how we produce learning videos at scale. They help us turn rough, scrappy input into polished, on-brand output, streamlining our workflows and dramatically reducing the burden of creation and maintenance for my team."
> — Garrett Marttinen, Head of Customer Learning at Atlassian

Atlassian, which bought Loom in 2023 for about $975 million, uses Clueso for its customer learning videos, and its sales enablement team uses it to train sales staff on Atlassian's products and internal sales processes. At GitLab, the digital customer success team makes product tutorials for GitLab University with Clueso and has cut its video production time by more than 80%, according to Anand. FIFA's learning and development team uses it for training videos and step-by-step guides to internal software in several languages.

Payments company PhonePe makes onboarding videos for new developers with Clueso and has cut the time it takes them to get up to speed by more than 30%, Anand says. At Phenom, leadership now requires product managers to publish a demo video with every new release, and Amplitude's product marketing team announces new features without going to its creative team for each video.

"Clueso's agent makes it easy to automatically transform product knowledge into polished, engaging learning experiences with far less manual effort," said Kevin Gross, senior manager of instructional design at Zendesk, which uses Clueso for internal and customer-facing videos. "It has helped us reduce production time and expand our video output."

## Clueso's Pricing and Plans for the Series A

Anyone can sign up and make a video on Clueso's free tier, and companies usually start in one team before others take it up and the account moves to an annual enterprise contract. Most of its growth has come through word of mouth rather than paid advertising. Clueso's newer plans charge for the number of videos and the amount of AI used rather than for each seat, because its agents now do much of the work that used to need a person at a screen.

Clueso will use the funding to sell to more large companies, give its agents more of the production work, make its editor as capable as Adobe Premiere Pro and Canva, and connect it to more of the systems where companies keep product knowledge and publish finished videos. It also plans to extend the same agents to presentations, interactive demos and written documentation, and is hiring across engineering, design, sales, marketing and growth.

## FAQ

**Q: What is the best software to create training videos?**
It depends on how much of the work a team wants to do by hand. Editors such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Canva and Camtasia give full control but need someone to record and edit every video. Screen recorders such as Loom capture a workflow quickly but still need a person to record each one. AI tools such as Synthesia generate presenter videos from a script, while Clueso's agents record the real software themselves and keep the video up to date when the product changes.

**Q: How much does a training video cost?**
Agencies quoted Clueso's founders $6,000 for a single product video when they ran their first startup, and a video they made themselves could take two weeks. Clueso says its customers have reported an 80% cut in video production costs, and GitLab has cut its tutorial production time by more than 80%.

**Q: How can I create my own training videos?**
Most teams record their screen, write a script, add a voiceover and edit the result in a video editor. With Clueso, a team starts from the workflow it wants to show, a document or a presentation, and the platform's agents capture the footage, write the script, add the voiceover and edit the video, which people can then adjust in its browser-based editor.

**Q: Who invested in Clueso's Series A?**
Dharana Capital led the $10 million round, with Founders Future and Neotribe Ventures joining as new investors and Y Combinator and f7 Ventures investing again. Clueso has raised $12 million in total.
