The Post Office has signed a £141 million contract to begin replacing Horizon, the system at the centre of [Britain’s most widespread miscarriage of justice](https://www.sovereignmagazine.com/article/a-post-office-software-glitch-created-grievous-injustice-for-2-decades-in-great-britain), starting with the tills in its branches. The deal, announced on 24 August, goes to OneView Commerce, a Boston-based cloud-commerce firm, and covers a new electronic point-of-sale (EPOS) platform for every Post Office branch. It is Lot 2 of the Post Office’s Horizon replacement procurement, valued at £141 million excluding VAT, and forms part of a five-year Transformation Plan to move off the legacy Fujitsu system.

## OneView Will Supply the Tills, Kiosks and Mobile Services

OneView says the platform is cloud-native and API-first, a commercial off-the-shelf product spanning EPOS, mobile services, customer engagement and self-service kiosks, to be configured, tested and rolled out to branches in phases. OneView chief executive Linda Palanza said the firm brings “a proven commercial solution built on the power of cloud-native technology that will enable Post Office to achieve their EPOS objectives without requiring customization.” OneView is working alongside Accenture, which is separately leading the transition of day-to-day operations and the back-end development.

## The False Shortfalls Came From the Accounting Layer, Not the Till

Hundreds of people were wrongly prosecuted after the Horizon software suggested money was missing from their branch accounts, the UK’s most widespread miscarriage of justice. Those phantom shortfalls were generated in the system’s accounting layer, not at the counter. The EPOS till is where postmasters entered transactions and saw the resulting balances, false ones included; it is not the engine that produced them. That engine sits in a different part of the procurement.

## Accenture Holds the Larger Contract to Replace Fujitsu’s Back Office

That part is Lot 1, held by Accenture and worth around £320 million, covering the back-office and operations takeover from Fujitsu and the replacement of the back-end system. Together the two lots are worth roughly £500 million and are intended to remove Fujitsu from the Post Office entirely. OneView’s £141 million award is the smaller of the two, and the branch-facing one.

## Fujitsu’s Exit Has Slipped, Possibly to 2033

Fujitsu was originally meant to leave by summer 2027. Repeated delays have pushed that timeline back, and [Computer Weekly has reported](https://www.computerweekly.com/news/366646732/Subpostmasters-anxious-over-Horizon-replacement-as-it-is-delayed-yet-again) that Horizon could remain in branches as late as 2033, with subpostmasters anxious over the continued slippage.

## Redress Is Still Being Paid as Convictions Are Quashed

As of March 2026, 2,248 convictions had been identified for quashing and £1.44 billion had been paid in redress across the compensation schemes. The statutory [Post Office Horizon IT Inquiry](https://www.postofficehorizoninquiry.org.uk/), in its first report in July 2025, found that the schemes had not delivered “full, fair and prompt compensation” and criticised the Post Office’s “unnecessarily adversarial” approach to claimants.

## FAQ

**Q: Is the Post Office still using Horizon software?**
Yes. Horizon remains in use across branches. The OneView contract begins the replacement of its till layer, and Fujitsu’s full exit has been delayed, with reporting suggesting the system could stay in branches until as late as 2033.

**Q: What is replacing the Post Office Horizon system?**
Two contracts. OneView Commerce holds Lot 2, worth £141 million excluding VAT, for a new cloud-native EPOS platform covering tills, kiosks and mobile services. Accenture holds the larger Lot 1, around £320 million, for the back-office and back-end system. Together the two lots are worth roughly £500 million.

**Q: How many subpostmasters were wrongly prosecuted?**
Hundreds of people were wrongly prosecuted after Horizon indicated money was missing from their accounts. As of March 2026, 2,248 convictions had been identified for quashing, and £1.44 billion had been paid in redress across the schemes.

**Q: When will Horizon be removed from Post Office branches?**
There is no firm date. Fujitsu was meant to exit by summer 2027, but repeated delays have pushed the timeline back, and one account suggests Horizon could remain in some branches until 2033.
