Riyadh Air has exercised options for 28 additional Boeing 787 Dreamliner jets and converted 20 of its existing orders to the larger 787-10 variant, bringing the Saudi carrier's firm order book to 67 aircraft once the remaining 17 are finalised.

The announcement, which also confirms a previously undisclosed purchase of 11 widebody jets, represents a significant acceleration for an airline that only entered commercial service in October 2025. [Founded in March 2023](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riyadh_Air) by order of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and wholly owned by the Public Investment Fund, Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, Riyadh Air is building its long-haul fleet at a pace that few new carriers have attempted.

The airline currently operates six 787-9s. With the 787-10 now added to its type mix, Riyadh Air will run two variants of the same family, gaining commonality on flight deck systems, maintenance procedures and pilot training while adding meaningful seat capacity for its busier trunk routes.
