Rick modeled him on Trixie, the family's 20-pound miniature schnoodle, and took his manner from Frasier Crane, the pompous radio psychiatrist played by Kelsey Grammer, the actor whose first name the robot dog shares. ## From Polymer Chemist to Texas Thriller Author Rick has worked in polymer science for more than 40 years. He spent 20 years in research at Dow Chemical, leading work on polyurethanes and polyolefins, followed by 13 years on the innovation team at Stepan Company and six years as chief technology officer of Resinate Materials Group.
