Revolut customers have been unable to pay by card, send money or get help through the app since early on Tuesday, in an outage that the bank's status page lists in all 78 countries and territories it tracks.

Revolut has not said what caused it. The outage began shortly after Google Cloud lost power in part of its London data centre region, and Revolut runs its global systems on Google Cloud under a multi-year contract. A person familiar with the matter told Reuters that the two failures are related.

By 1pm UK time, Revolut's status page still showed every service as affected. Google said shortly before then that the power problem had been fixed and its own services were recovering.

## Revolut's Status Page Lists 30 Services as Partially Unavailable

Customers began posting on X about declined cards, failed transfers and an in-app support chat that would not load from about 7.20am UK time. Revolut's status page changed at 8.47am, when every service on it was marked as affected, and the UK version of the page shows 30 services as partially unavailable. The list covers sign-in, card payments, ATM withdrawals, transfers, currency exchange, stock trading, cryptocurrency and savings vaults for personal customers, and log-in, outgoing transfers, the API and merchant payments for businesses. The Revolut website and the live support chat are on it as well.

Downdetector, which collects user reports of service problems, logged more than 1,500 reports for Revolut in the UK shortly after 8am. Customers as far apart as Norway, Latvia and Brazil described the same problems, some of them stuck at airports, cafés and bus stops with no other way to pay.

> "We can confirm that all our customers' money and data are safe."
> — Revolut

Revolut posted that assurance on X at 8.54am, in a statement that said it had been working on the problem "since it was identified this morning" and apologised to anyone affected. The post has been viewed more than 1.7 million times. It gave no cause and no time for service to return.

Revolut's support account spent the morning answering customers in English, French, Spanish, German and Portuguese. Many of its replies said the support agents could not see account details either: "We're currently experiencing issues with an internal tool which means I'm having difficulty accessing some information for you right now." A customer whose card was declined at an airport was told that "a technical outage is affecting card payments, and our team is working to resolve it as soon as possible."

## Google Cloud Lost Power in One of Its Three London Zones

[Google's status page](https://status.cloud.google.com/incidents/Xs2XTHzAVC9YnafnPyzj) shows problems in its europe-west2 region, which is based in London, from 7.08am UK time. Thirty-eight Google Cloud products were affected, among them its main computing, database, storage and networking services.

At 12.12pm, Google gave the cause: "Due to a power event we had suffered an outage within europe-west2-b zone." Google splits each region into separate zones so that a fault in one should not take down the others, and its London region has three. Earlier in the morning, Google's advice to affected customers was to move their workloads to another zone or region if they could. In its update at 12.58pm, Google said the power problem had been dealt with and services were recovering, with full recovery of existing workloads expected, tentatively, by 2pm.

> "Different businesses can appear independent or separate to one another, whilst still relying on the same cloud infrastructure behind the scenes."
> — Dr Hamza Mutaher, lecturer in cyber security at Birmingham City University

Rightmove, Royal Mail and the video platform used by courts in England and Wales also had problems on Tuesday morning, and Lloyds Banking Group said some customers were having issues with certain online services.

## Revolut Runs Its Global Systems on Google Cloud

Revolut expanded its contract with Google Cloud in September 2025, in a multi-year deal worth millions of dollars under which Revolut uses Google Cloud's infrastructure "to power its rapidly growing global systems". The two companies presented the deal as part of Revolut's plan to reach more than 100 million customers.

Revolut customers started reporting failures shortly after Google's London problems began. Emma, a UK budgeting app, said on X at 9.29am that it was down "due to a Google Cloud outage affecting services in London since 7am", and the person who spoke to Reuters said Revolut's outage was related to the same disruption.

Revolut has declined to say what caused its outage, and Google does not name the customers affected by its incidents, so neither company has confirmed the link.

## Google Cloud Has Been Under UK Financial Regulators' Oversight Since July

Since 13 July, Google Cloud's European arm has been one of four technology providers overseen directly by the Bank of England, the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), after the Treasury designated them as critical third parties to the UK financial system. The other three are Amazon Web Services, Microsoft and Oracle. Under the regime, the providers must manage the risks to the services they supply to the financial sector and keep regulators and the firms that rely on them informed, "particularly during major incidents".

Nikhil Rathi, the FCA's chief executive, said when the [designations were announced in July](https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/news/2026/july/uk-financial-regulators-to-begin-overseeing-critical-third-parties-announced-by-hmt) that "when the same providers serve thousands of firms, a single failure can reverberate across the financial system". The regulators also said the regime does not replace the rules for banks, which "remain responsible for managing their own third-party arrangements including due diligence, risk management and contingency planning".

Those rules apply to Revolut, which became a fully licensed UK bank in March and had [68.3 million retail customers at the end of 2025](https://www.sovereignmagazine.com/article/revolut-record-profit-ipo-delay). Since March 2025, UK operational resilience rules have required banks to be able to keep each of their important services, payments among them, within a maximum level of disruption that the bank sets for itself. In the EU, where [Revolut's banks are licensed in Lithuania and France](https://www.sovereignmagazine.com/article/revolut-second-eu-banking-licence-france-dual-hub), the [Digital Operational Resilience Act](https://www.sovereignmagazine.com/article/european-union-to-introduce-dora-digital-operational-resilience-act-from-january-2025) requires banks to report major IT incidents to their supervisor.

Edward Targett, editor of the technology publication The Stack, wrote on Tuesday that Revolut "may want to urgently review its operational resilience and failovers", and pointed to Monzo, which he said keeps a backup platform on Google Cloud that can take over from its main platform on Amazon Web Services. Revolut has not said how its systems are spread across Google's London zones, or whether it has a backup outside Google Cloud. The PRA and the FCA had not commented publicly on the outage by Tuesday afternoon.

## FAQ

**Q: Why is my Revolut not working?**
Since early on Tuesday 20 October, Revolut has had an outage affecting every service on its status page, including card payments, transfers, ATM withdrawals and the in-app support chat, in 78 countries and territories. The outage is on Revolut's side, so a declined card does not mean anything is wrong with that customer's account. Revolut has not given a cause. The outage began shortly after a power failure in Google Cloud's London region, which a person familiar with the matter told Reuters was related.

**Q: Is it safe to have all my money in Revolut?**
Revolut says customers' money and data are safe. In the UK, eligible deposits held with Revolut Bank UK are protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme up to £120,000 per person, though that protection applies only if a bank fails. On Tuesday, customers who kept all their spending on Revolut had no other way to pay while the outage lasted.

**Q: What to do when the bank app is down?**
Check the bank's status page and its official social media accounts for updates, and use a card or account with another bank in the meantime. There is no automatic right to compensation for an outage in the UK, but a customer who loses money because of one can complain to the bank and, if the complaint is not resolved within eight weeks, take it to the Financial Ombudsman Service. Revolut has not said whether it will compensate customers for Tuesday's outage.
