Proton, the Swiss firm known for its encrypted email and VPN, is reportedly recruiting to build a web browser, and its privacy-focused community has met the prospect with resistance rather than applause. According to TechRadar, a job listing first reported by TechCentral.ie shows Proton hiring a software engineer to join a "browser product team" based in Geneva or Zurich. Proton declined to comment when approached by TechRadar.

The listing asks for candidates with "hands-on experience building or maintaining a Chromium-based browser" and lists tasks including "anti-fingerprinting measures, content blocking, or reducing telemetry and third-party dependencies." It describes the product as "a privacy-first internet browser used by millions around the world," running on macOS, Windows and Linux.
