Olatti, a business phone system for UK small and medium-sized firms, launched on 15 September with a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that connects it to Claude and ChatGPT. Once a user connects Olatti to their assistant, they can ask it about their calls, call transcripts, messages and contacts, and [have it place a call](https://www.sovereignmagazine.com/article/dialmcp-ai-agents-phone-calls-own-number), without leaving the chat.

MCP is an open standard released by Anthropic in November 2024 that lets AI assistants work with outside software, and both Claude and ChatGPT accept MCP servers as [custom connectors](https://www.sovereignmagazine.com/article/taxact-claude-connector-mcp).

## A Southampton-Based Business Phone System Founded by Axel Molist

Olatti was built by the 20-person development team of Axel Molist, who founded Southampton business telecoms specialist circle.cloud 11 years ago. The team began writing the software in late 2021 and launched it without external funding. Olatti is run from Southampton by We UC, a second company Axel founded, which sells it direct and supplies circle.cloud, Olatti's first reseller. The companies Axel founded and owns employ more than 150 people between them and serve more than 10,000 users.

Axel said: "We spent years limited by a third-party system, unable to build exactly what our customers needed. Owning the whole stack means that when a customer asks for something on a Monday morning, we can often have it live by Friday. We ship updates to production every week."

## What Claude and ChatGPT Can Do Through the Olatti MCP Server

Olatti says a connected assistant can act on plain-English instructions such as "use Olatti to message John that I can't make our meeting and liaise with him to re-arrange it" or "give me the sales team's phone talk time for this week", sending the message or pulling the report through Olatti and coming back with the answer.

Users can also search their call history by contact, number, date or tag, then ask for a call's transcript and summary. The prompts Olatti suggests include "Find my last three calls with Sarah Khan and summarise them", "What did we agree on the call with Paul on Tuesday?" and "Search last month's external calls tagged 'support' and pull the transcripts."

They can look up a contact's mobile number, find everyone saved at a particular company, catch up on their direct messages or check what was said in a team channel the day before.

Asked to "look up Graham's number and call him from my desktop", Claude or ChatGPT finds the number, asks which of the user's Olatti devices to use and rings it. When the user answers, Olatti connects the call.

## Voice Dialling in the Olatti Business Phone System

> "The biggest cost in a small business is not the conversations that go badly. It is the conversations that never happen."
> — Axel Molist

Axel said: "The biggest cost in a small business is not the conversations that go badly. It is the conversations that never happen. It is the call someone puts off because finding the number, the app and the right moment is too much effort. We built Olatti so people can just have the conversation."

From inside any application, Olatti users can hold down a key and say "call John", and Olatti places the call with no app to open and no number to find. Axel said he has yet to find another business phone system you can simply talk to.

The platform combines calls on real UK numbers, messaging, video meetings, recording, transcription and a searchable history of every conversation. It is aimed at service businesses with anything from one user to several hundred, including agencies, accountants, recruitment consultants, design studios, architecture firms and consultancies.

## UK Data Centres and Olatti Pricing

Olatti records, transcribes and summarises calls on its own infrastructure in UK data centres rather than with a third-party AI or transcription provider. Connecting Claude or ChatGPT does not change where that processing happens, and what the assistant reads in a chat is covered by the user's own terms with Anthropic or OpenAI.

Transcripts and summaries, which the assistant uses to report what was said on a call, come with Olatti's Plus and Unlimited plans at £20 and £25 per user per month, excluding VAT. The Metered plan costs £6, and the three plans cost £5, £17 and £21 per user per month when [billed annually](https://olatti.com/pricing).

Teams can try any plan free for seven days without a payment card, connecting Claude or ChatGPT by following Olatti's [setup guide](https://help.olatti.com/en/articles/3719517-connect-olatti-to-claude-and-chatgpt). The first 100 UK teams to join the founding club, in waiting-list order, keep a 30% discounted launch price as the product grows and have a direct line to the product team.

## FAQ

**Q: What is an MCP server?**
An MCP server lets an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT use another piece of software. Olatti's MCP server gives the assistant access to a user's calls, transcripts, messages and contacts, and lets it place calls.

**Q: Can ChatGPT make a phone call?**
With Olatti connected, ChatGPT can look up a contact and call them from one of the user's Olatti devices. The user is asked which device to ring, and Olatti connects the call when they answer. Connecting Olatti to ChatGPT needs a Plus, Pro or Team plan.

**Q: Can I connect Claude to my business phone system?**
Olatti users can add it to Claude as a custom connector on the Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans, then ask Claude about their calls, transcripts, messages and contacts. On Team and Enterprise plans, an admin adds the connector for the organisation first.

**Q: Where does Olatti process call recordings and transcripts?**
In Olatti's own UK data centres. Calls are recorded, transcribed and summarised there rather than by an outside AI or transcription company, including when Claude or ChatGPT is connected.
