The Government of the Philippines has awarded Koloma exclusive rights to explore for natural hydrogen in western Zambales province, the Denver-based company's third service contract in the country and an expansion that brings its total permitted exploration area to more than 1,600 square miles (4,100 square kilometers).

Service Contract 92 follows two contracts Koloma won last October covering parts of Central Luzon, awarded through what the company describes as the first competitive bid round for natural hydrogen exploration held anywhere in the world. Koloma has already started exploration work at both Central Luzon sites and will now extend that work west into Zambales. The company says the work is led by a team of geo-scientists and exploration specialists drawing on what it describes as the largest proprietary natural hydrogen dataset in the industry.

"We are honored to deepen our partnership with the Government of the Philippines to pursue what could be a transformative opportunity for the country, in terms of energy security and economic growth," said Pete Johnson, Koloma's chief executive and co-founder. Philippines Secretary of Energy Sharon Garin said a commercial discovery would strengthen the country's energy security at no cost to taxpayers, while giving it a zero-emission fuel source for its power grid, industry and agriculture.
