Meta unveiled a consumer virtual-reality headset at its Connect event on September 23 that weighs about 100 grams, roughly one-sixth of the Apple Vision Pro, and reached that figure by moving the processor, battery and cooling fan out of the headset and into a separate pack. The device, officially the Meta VR Glasses, will sell for $1,299 and ship in spring 2027.

A standalone headset normally carries its computer, battery and heat management on the wearer's face, which is why the Vision Pro weighs between 1.3 and 1.7 pounds. Meta split those parts into a puck of about 300 grams that clips to a pocket or sits on a table, leaving the glasses to hold the display, cameras and sensors. That division buys both the low weight and, with fewer parts packed into the frame, the lower price.
