My name is Kian Bakhtiari, I was born and raised in Iran before travelling to the U.K in the year 2000. As you can Imagine, I was entering a strange new world; completely different to the one I grew in. Everything was so different, the roads, cars, people, food and language. I spoke no English and by the time I learned how to communicate, I was already getting into a lot of trouble at school. I was mischievous, rebellious and above all curious. Which meant I was regularly getting excluded from school.
Luckily for me, In year 10 I had a teacher who believed in me and this changed the trajectory of my life. Statistically speaking, my life should have turned out completely different, as it did for most of the friends, I grew up with. I guess I was just lucky enough to have some sliding doors open for me just in time.
This very personal experience has provided me a fundamental Insight which has gone on to define the rest of my life:
“All humans beings are equal; opportunity is the only thing which separates us” You see, life can be one big lottery: where you’re born often dictates you life chances.
Sadly, most of the world’s population will never get the opportunities that I did. This is something I want to change and that’s why I decided to create The People.
