Independent benchmarks published on August 12 put xAI's Grok 4.6 back among the strongest AI models available, and for anyone paying to use one, the standout number is cost rather than raw intelligence. According to [Artificial Analysis](https://artificialanalysis.ai/articles/grok-4-6-benchmarks-and-analysis), Grok 4.6 scores 61 on its Intelligence Index, in line with GPT-5.6 Sol at the top and behind only Anthropic's Claude Opus 5 at 63 and Claude Fable 5 at 62. The firm says the result brings xAI "back to the intelligence frontier alongside OpenAI, behind only Anthropic."

That 61 is a jump of five points over Grok 4.5, which shipped just over a month earlier, and 23 points over Grok 4.3, according to Artificial Analysis. For a buyer, the more useful comparison is what that intelligence costs.
