FutureSports, a Chicago company that converts professional and college sports statistics into tradable financial indexes, has emerged from stealth after developing its methodology since 2022. The firm raised a seed round co-led by Marquee Ventures, an investment arm spun out of the Chicago Cubs' ownership group, with participation from CME Ventures, Robinhood Markets, Wedbush and DRW Special Investments, the company said.

The round also drew Motivate VC, Phoenix Capital Ventures, and John and Linda Henry of Fenway Sports Group. FutureSports has added Mark Wassersug, the former chief operating and information officer of Intercontinental Exchange, as board chairman, alongside Tim McCourt, CME Group's global head of equity, FX and alternative products, and Erik Hammer of Marquee Ventures.

The company's product, called the FutureSports Performance Index, converts officially reported statistics into a continuous benchmark value intended to underpin listed derivatives, exchange-traded funds and over-the-counter swaps tied to team and athlete performance.
