More than three quarters of every domain name [resold on Dynadot](https://www.sovereignmagazine.com/article/why-sandiego-com-is-drawing-big-money-domain-names-digital-real-estate-and-the-next-urban-gol)'s marketplace in the first three months of 2026 ended in .com. The share was 77 percent, and it held across every route a name can travel: 80 percent of closeouts, 80 percent of marketplace sales, 79 percent of user auctions, 73 percent of expired auctions and 68 percent of buy-it-now listings.

That happened in the same quarter that registrations on the platform rose 40 percent year over year and a set of newer extensions grew in the hundreds of percent. The report's other measures, on cancellations, resales and multi-year renewals, track what became of those registrations afterwards.

The figures come from the Domain Intelligence Report for Q1 2026, published by Dynadot, an ICANN-accredited registrar and marketplace founded in San Mateo in 2002. They cover activity on Dynadot's own platform between January 2025 and March 2026, not the domain industry as a whole, and the company publishes them as index values against a Q1 2025 baseline of 100 rather than as raw counts.
