An AI agent can now place a phone call on your behalf using your own number, so the person who answers sees you calling and can ring back a human. Datawizz, the San Francisco company behind the AI workspace Gamut, opened that capability to any assistant with DialMCP, a hosted Model Context Protocol server that connects agents to the telephone network.

Phone calls have been the stubborn gap in what agents can do. An assistant can book a flight, fill a form and send an email, and then stall completely at a barbershop that takes reservations only by voice. The company says a large share of everyday transactions still work this way: contractor quotes, medical appointments, hotel requests and small-business scheduling.

"I asked my agent to book a haircut and it couldn't, because the barbershop only takes reservations by phone," said Iddo Gino, founder and chief executive of Datawizz, who previously founded RapidAPI. "An enormous amount of the world still runs on phone calls. We gave the agent a phone, specifically the user's own phone number, so the person on the other end can always call a real human back."
