Only 24% of HR professionals feel comfortable deploying agentic AI systems, the kind that act autonomously within defined boundaries rather than simply respond to prompts. That figure, drawn from a survey of 264 HR professionals across North America, Asia-Pacific, and EMEA by Culture Amp, an employee experience and performance platform serving more than 25 million employees, captures the central problem in AI in HR today: widespread adoption that stops well short of transformation.

The survey, Culture Amp's second annual examination of AI in HR, finds that the dominant use cases remain content creation (86% of respondents), brainstorming (83%), and information synthesis (81%). These are productivity accelerators, not structural changes to how HR functions. Only 39% have moved AI into HR operations automation, and just 34% report using agentic workflow support at all.

The gap matters because confidence is eroding in parallel with the plateau. The share of HR professionals who believe AI will significantly improve how work gets done has dropped nine percentage points in a single year, from 86% in 2025 to 77% in 2026. The proportion confident that generative AI will improve the perceived value of HR expertise has fallen further, from 47% to 38%.
