The US Department of Energy issued DOE/HGEO Order No. 5447 on July 23, 2026, authorizing Argent LNG to export 1,293.75 billion cubic feet of natural gas per year, equivalent to 25 million metric tons per annum, for a term of 20 years from first commercial export, plus a three-year make-up period. The order was signed by Amy Sweeney, Director of the Office of Global Energy Security, and designates Port Fourchon in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, as the authorized export terminal.

The authorization covers 19 current US Free Trade Agreement partners: Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jordan, Mexico, Morocco, Nicaragua, Oman, Panama, Peru, Republic of Korea, Singapore, and any future FTA nation admitted to the list. It also grants Argent LNG agency rights, permitting the company to export on behalf of title-holders as well as its own account.

The order arrives alongside a cluster of offtake agreements that together indicate where a significant portion of the 25 MTPA is expected to flow. Naftogaz of Ukraine signed a memorandum of understanding on July 15 for long-term offtake aimed at Ukrainian and broader Central, Eastern, and Southern European markets. Turkey's state pipeline operator BOTAS and its energy exchange EPIAS both signed cooperation agreements, with EPIAS targeting 5 MTPA. Bangladesh signed a Heads of Agreement for up to 5 MTPA. None of these agreements constitute binding offtake contracts, but they establish the commercial pipeline Argent LNG will need to support a final investment decision.
