Ahead of Apple's event on 9 September, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that the company's first foldable iPhone, a project a decade in the making, is expected to launch at more than $2,000. Gurman reported that Apple originally targeted a price under $2,000, close to $1,999, before rising component costs pushed internal discussions toward about $2,199. Higher-storage configurations could reach roughly $2,900, with some versions passing $3,000, according to his reporting. Multiple outlets and analysts put the base price in the $1,999 to $2,199 range. Apple has not confirmed the device, its price, or its specifications.

## The Reported Price Starts Near $2,000 and Climbs From There

Gurman reported that the pricing pressure came from components rather than positioning, with the internal target moving up as the bill of materials rose. A base configuration in the $1,999 to $2,199 range would place the foldable iPhone above the standard iPhone Pro line and near the top of Apple's phone catalogue. In the reporting, the highest-storage versions cost well past $2,900, which would make the top configuration one of the most expensive phones Apple has sold. Buyers will not see confirmed figures until Apple sets them at the event.
