Anthropic has reportedly agreed to pay $10 billion over six years for computing capacity from Volta, an AI cloud startup founded earlier this year. The capacity is to come from a data center in Norway that Volta's partner in the deal, the bitcoin mining company Bitdeer, is helping develop. Bloomberg reported the arrangement first, citing anonymous sources familiar with it, and TechCrunch followed on August 4.

The Norwegian facility is to deliver 133 megawatts and run on Nvidia's Vera Rubin systems, the chipmaker's newest AI chip architecture. Volta belongs to Nvidia's Cloud Partner program, a group of cloud providers that build their data centers around Nvidia GPUs. Volta had spoken publicly about an agreement with an AI lab without naming the customer. Anthropic has not commented on the reports.

## Bitdeer Is Turning a Norwegian Bitcoin Site Into an AI Data Center

Bitdeer trades on Nasdaq as BTDR and describes itself as an infrastructure company for both AI and bitcoin mining. Its Norwegian conversion work is already public. In March the company said its Tydal subsidiary had engaged the Norwegian contractor Data Center Installations AS to turn the Tydal site into [180 megawatts of gross installed capacity laid out for Nvidia's Vera Rubin systems](https://ir.bitdeer.com/news-releases/news-release-details/bitdeer-engages-dci-finalise-development-norways-largest-ai-data/), with completion possible as early as December 2026 and an expectation that it will be Norway's largest AI data center.

Which Bitdeer site will carry the Anthropic capacity has not been identified, and the 133 megawatts reported for the Volta agreement is a separate figure from Tydal's 180.

## The 133 Megawatts Sit Well Below Anthropic's Gigawatt Agreements

Anthropic has spent the past year contracting for chips and power wherever it can find them. Its own newsroom said in May that a deal with SpaceX gives it [all of the capacity at the Colossus 1 data center, more than 300 megawatts and over 220,000 Nvidia GPUs](https://www.anthropic.com/news/higher-limits-spacex). Alongside that sit an agreement of up to 5 gigawatts with Amazon, a further 5 gigawatts with Google and Broadcom coming online from 2027, and $30 billion of Azure capacity through a partnership with Microsoft and Nvidia.

Against those figures a single 133 megawatt site is a small addition. Volta was founded this year, its partner in the deal mines bitcoin, and both work inside Nvidia's partner program.
