Aina, the San Francisco wearables company started by Ultrahuman's former vice president of hardware, has unveiled a $399 AI ring that predicts what its wearer is likely to need next and offers it on a small screen, from booking the usual ride to work to muting a microphone in a meeting, each one approved with a flick of the thumb.

[Pre-orders](https://shop.aina.com/products/aina-ring) opened on Thursday at an early price of $399 for the Eclipse Black, Mercury Silver and Slate Titanium finishes, down from $499, and $449 for Amber Gold, down from $549. Shipping worldwide is planned from January 2027, and a free sizing kit goes out first so buyers can find their size before their ring is made. The ring comes with a charging dock, a one-year warranty and 14 days for returns. It works with the iPhone and Mac at launch, and the company says it will announce further integrations after launch. The company, which has offices in San Francisco and Bangalore and a team of 40, spent 15 months developing the ring in stealth and [raised a $5.5 million seed round in July](https://www.sovereignmagazine.com/article/aina-5-5m-seed-human-computer-interaction).

## Aina Cues and the Ring's Context-Aware Operating System

The ring runs on what Aina calls a context-aware operating system. It draws on a wearer's phone, Mac and AI agents to learn which apps they use and when, where they are and what is in their calendar, then works out what they are likely to want next. Aina calls these suggestions Cues. Someone who leaves for work at nine finds a shortcut to book their usual Uber waiting on the ring just before they head out. Someone running late for a meeting is offered a shortcut to send an email saying so.

The software works out the three things the wearer is most likely to need next, and the display shows one suggestion at a time with a hint for the gesture that carries it out. A flick of the thumb upward approves it. Nothing happens until the wearer swipes, and Aina says the routine is learned on the wearer's own devices rather than in the cloud.

## The Aina Ring's Screen, Shifter and Speaker

Most smart rings on sale, including the Oura Ring and Samsung's Galaxy Ring, have no display and are designed to track sleep, heart rate and activity. Aina has designed its ring as a controller instead. The titanium band carries an OLED display and a mechanical switch Aina calls the Shifter, which picks up thumb movements in four directions. The ring also has a center button, a microphone and a speaker, and recognizes seven gestures in all. It is rated IP64 against dust and splashing water, comes in seven sizes made for the index finger, and the company quotes up to 18 hours of battery life.

The speaker lets the ring handle phone calls. A wearer can start a call with a voice command, then raise their hand to their ear to talk and listen. Holding the center button also records quick voice notes.

## Approving AI Agents From the Ring

> "Hundreds of times a day, we'll choose between options and say yes or no. Pulling out and unlocking a phone for each of these binary moments won't work."
> — Apoorv Shankar, Founder, Aina

Shankar expects AI agents to take on more everyday tasks and to ask for a person's go-ahead before they act. With Aina Voice, users connect the agents they already use through the Aina app, then press and hold the center button to speak to them. When an agent needs a decision, a notification appears on the ring's screen, and the wearer flicks up to approve or holds the button to reply by voice.

"We started building Aina with a thesis that AI would evolve from following instructions to anticipating what we need," Shankar said. "With proactive agents, that shift has already begun. Agents like Muse, Instinct and Dots will soon run hundreds of our daily tasks. Today we instruct them by text or voice. Next, they'll learn our patterns, build on our context and turn proactive for almost every interaction, waiting only for our approval."

## Using the AI Ring as a Remote for Music, Meetings and TV

The third mode, Aina Remote, changes the ring's controls to suit what the wearer is doing. With music playing, the ring works as a music remote. In a video meeting it controls the microphone, the camera and the notetaker. In front of the television it becomes the TV remote. On the Mac, it offers shortcuts for the app in use.

## Apoorv Shankar, Ultrahuman and the Dune Keypad

Shankar's first company, LazyCo, which he co-founded in 2017 with Yogansh Namdeo, created a wearable ring that was also called Aina, and was acquired by Ultrahuman in 2022. He then ran hardware at Ultrahuman before leaving to found the new Aina in May 2025.

The company began as a human-computer interaction lab, testing physical controls for everyday computing. It showed three experimental AI interface concepts at CES 2026, and in April released Dune, a three-key keypad for the Mac whose keys change function with the app in use. Dune has shipped to hundreds of early adopters, and the company used their feedback to choose the everyday tasks the ring handles. A group of private pilot users has been testing the ring since early October.

"Every major shift in computing has come from software and hardware built together," Shankar said. "The mouse and the GUI brought personal computing. The touchscreen and the App Store brought mobile computing. Now, with Aina and AI agents, we enter a new era: personalized computing, right at your fingertips."

## FAQ

**Q: What does an AI ring do?**
Most smart rings track health data such as sleep and heart rate. Aina's AI ring is a controller: it learns a wearer's routine from their phone, Mac and AI agents, shows the three actions they are most likely to need on a small screen, and lets them approve or reject each one with a thumb movement. It also takes voice commands, phone calls and voice notes.

**Q: How much is the Aina AI ring?**
The early pre-order price is $399 for the Eclipse Black, Mercury Silver and Slate Titanium finishes, down from $499, and $449 for Amber Gold, down from $549. Pre-orders opened on November 5, 2026, and shipping is planned to start in January 2027, with worldwide delivery.

**Q: Does the Aina ring work with iPhone?**
Yes. At launch the ring pairs with the iPhone and controls meetings, calls and app shortcuts on the Mac. Aina has said it will announce further integrations after launch and has not yet given a date for Android support.

**Q: How long does the Aina ring's battery last?**
Aina quotes up to 18 hours of battery life. The ring charges on a dock.
